Since Darren received two bronze awards
in his first year entry into the QLD Sausage
King Competition, his products have been
gaining more and more momentum. The sausages
that Darren produces at his Queensland based
retail store, Kawungan Quality Meats have
a reputation as being some of Australia's
finest selections.
Sausages from all around the state are put
to the judges at the Royal Brisbane Show
to determine who produces the best snag,
and Darren's secret recipes are proving
to be a big hit.
Judging is based on presentation, texture
and flavour and points are awarded for each
of these criteria. The final tally is then
added up with the highest score being crowned
with the 'Sausage King' title.
In 2002 Darren was runner up in the gourmet
section with his one and only "The No Sauce
Required Sausage" (NSRS). This had a great
flow on effect for the store, with demand
from media right across the nation wanting
to know all about this "No Sauce Required
Sausage". Darren still gets people into
the store who ask for his NSRS that they
heard about in there home town.
Darren's snags are one of his best selling
lines at Kawungan Quality Meats with demand
for these award winners landing him with
orders from right across the nation. Not
only does the competition allow Darren to
set a benchmark in quality and compare his
products to other retailers, it also allows
Darren to let his creative juices flow,
creative juices that he is putting to work
with other quality products hitting the
shelves at his store.
